When you’ve been around as long as we have, you can’t be a stranger to a plot twist. Especially in the fast-paced world that is digital marketing.   

From our inception in 2000 to now, we’ve adapted, evolved and grown within the digital space. Derived from the concept of taking tradeshows online and soon venturing into online marketing products, WMG has always been ahead of the curve.  

And now, 24 years after we first hit the web, we are embarking on our most exciting change yet.

Right place, right time, right leader 

Cast your mind back to 2000, we’re yet to fully harness the power of the World Wide Web but the possibilities of the internet and how businesses can adapt to an online world is capturing the attention of savvy minds across the globe.  

Enter, Dennis Engel.  

Coming from a career in software and engineering, Dennis had an eye for innovation. In 2000 when he saw a gap in the market for online tradeshows, he pounced and has never looked back. Hitting the scene under the name ‘Webevents’, the business quickly evolved as Dennis’ vision expanded to the world of digital marketing. And so, three years after we first launched Webevents, the next chapter was upon us and ‘The Web Marketing Group’ was born.  

With a bank of in-house tools and our own proprietary software, we became market leaders, providing unparalleled digital marketing support to brands looking to expand their online presence. We’ve seen many an agency come and go, but with our roots firmly in data, we had our specialism and we stuck to it.  

After years honing our craft, we were ready to kick things up a notch. Looking to expand our reach our sister agency Ingenuity Digital was born, setting up shop in London. Now, with two agencies at the forefront of the digital revolution, the foundations were in place to grow into something truly outstanding.  

From one to nine: Who are idhl Group? 

We’ve never shied away from growth. Whether that be expanding our portfolio of services, scouring for and obtaining the most talented folks in the business, or adding another agency to our ranks, we just keep on going.  

After the inception of Ingenuity Digital, we quickly turned our attention to web development and in 2013, NetConstruct joined our roster. With an increasing network of agencies, each with their own niche and service offering, idhl Group was formed to sit above the family of brands, creating one centralised parent company. And so, The Web Marketing Group became WMG, a Search and Performance marketing agency, sitting underneath the newly formed idhl.  

Since we first dipped our toes into the digital world, we’ve not stopped. From Webevents, we have evolved into something so much bigger. Alongside WMG, NetConstruct and Ingenuity Digital, six more agencies joined the idhl Group.  

We’re not sitting still and neither should you 

Nine agencies, over 400 experts and an incredible wealth of knowledge between us – we’re taking things up a level. Bringing our people and experience together under one roof, June 2024 is when we retire our WMG name and become ‘idhl’ – a fully integrated digital powerhouse. 

And with that, our story as WMG comes to an end but our story as idhl – well, that’s just getting started.  

We’re idhl, our ambition doesn’t stand still. Neither should yours.
